What you can do


Check each cable on the computer to make sure it is plugged into the correct port, and that each cable is seated properly.

Our Advice


It is easy to overlook this step and waste time on other fixes. Take the time to check the cables- it is always a good idea.

Note:Sometimes there are multiple ports a cable can plug into. Make sure you identify the correct one to use for each cable.


Restart the Computer

What you can do

Close all running programs, and completely power down the computer using the Shutdown button. Make sure the power light is off. Wait 15 seconds, then power it back on.

Our Advice

A portion of computer problems simply go away with a computer restart. It is always a good step to take if something is malfunctioning.


Note: Optionally, when the computer starts up, close any running programs.

Note: Optionally, when the computer is powered off, unplug the power for 20 seconds. This can identify power supply problems.

Note: A complete shutdown and start-up is called a cold boot.
